Biopsy Services Offered at Downtown Location
6/5/2012 12:00:00 AM
Later this summer, biopsy services will be added to the spectrum of services offered at the Baptist M&S Imaging Downtown location. This addition of biopsy services rounds out the offering of these procedures to three San Antonio area locations: Baptist Breast Center, Baptist M&S Imaging – Mission Trail and now Baptist M&S Imaging – Downtown.
Ultrasound and Stereotactic biopsy procedures are commonly performed on women and are highly reliable in helping radiologists diagnose a variety of breast abnormalities. They are minimally invasive and compared to open surgery biopsies produce less internal and external scarring. Scarring may reduce a radiologist’s accuracy interpreting future mammograms.
Patients may experience minimum discomfort during either ultrasound biopsy or stereotactic biopsy procedure. Each procedure usually takes less than an hour to complete and patients are able to resume normal activity immediately after. Biopsy results are provided tothe patient’s doctor usually within 72 hours.
